Having taught voice in the Baltimore area for the last 10 and a half years, I've worked with a lot of singers, each with their own unique style. I've worked with children all the way up to older adults, and I haven't met one yet that I thought couldn't be taught to sing, and sing well. It takes some a little longer than others, but the two most important factors involved in being able to give a good performance - solid technique and belief in one's self - can be learned by anyone.
I've gone through the school of hard knocks myself, concerning my own experience as a contemporary style vocalist (classically trained but wanting to sing good old Rock & Roll), and I've designed my lessons so that my students don't feel like they have to study for months - or years - to get the kind of voice that they have always wanted. My lessons are founded in very solid basic techniques such as posture, breathing, support and control, but make a quick transition over to advanced contemporary techniques that won't leave them sounding like opera singers - unless, of course that's what they want to sound like.
